Mercury Mountaineer

Brake fluid capacity & service interval

Mercury Mountaineer brake fluid capacity ranges between min and max. Service intervals occur every 24 months. Data covers 2 configurations.

The configuration chart below lists fill volumes and service intervals for each engine and trim variant.

TypeSpecifications
Mountaineer 4.0 V6 (2005-2010)
  • Use: Normal
  • Between min and max.
  • Change 24 months
Mountaineer 4.0 V6 AWD (2005-2010)
  • Use: Normal
  • Between min and max.
  • Change 24 months

Additional Notes

  • The Mercury Mountaineer brake fluid reservoir carries no fixed volume target. Instead, the specification calls for fluid to sit between the minimum and maximum markers on the reservoir, which reflects a level-based fill standard rather than a measured capacity.
  • Both the standard 4.0 V6 and the 4.0 V6 AWD configurations share an identical 24-month change interval under normal use conditions, applying uniformly across the 2005-2010 model years.
  • The AWD variant does not carry a separate or modified brake fluid interval despite the added drivetrain complexity. The 24-month schedule under normal use applies equally to both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive versions of the 4.0 V6.
  • A 24-month brake fluid change interval reflects the hygroscopic nature of brake fluid, which absorbs moisture from the atmosphere over time and lowers the boiling point of the fluid within the hydraulic system.
