Audi A8, S8, 4D (EU)
Manual transmission fluid capacity & service interval
Audi A8, S8, 4D (EU) models require manual transmission fluid with a capacity range of 2,4 to 3,4 liters. Service intervals include checks at 30000 km and 35000 km. The data covers 10 configurations.
The configuration chart below lists fill volumes and service intervals for each engine and trim variant.

Additional Notes
- All manual transmission fluid capacities across the Audi A8 and S8 4D range fall into three distinct values: 2.4 liters for the V6 TDI transaxle configurations, 2.7–2.75 liters for the 2.8 V6 30V quattro transaxle/transferbox configurations, and 3.4 liters for the S8 4.2 V8 quattro transaxle/transferbox configurations. The larger capacity in the S8 reflects the combined volume requirement of the transaxle and transferbox assembly in a higher-output drivetrain.
- The 2.4-liter fill capacity applies exclusively to the V6 TDI variants, which are specified as transaxle-only units without a transferbox. A transaxle integrates the transmission and axle differential into a single housing, and the 2.4-liter figure represents the service fill volume for that combined unit.
- The 2.8 V6 30V quattro variants from 1995-1996, rated at 120 kW and 128 kW respectively, carry a slightly higher capacity of 2.75 liters compared to the 2.7-liter figure specified for the 142 kW variant across its 1995-2003 production span. Both are noted as transaxle, manual/transferbox configurations.
- The two 2.8 V6 30V quattro (142 kW) entries cover separate production periods, 1995-1999 and 1999-2003, yet share identical specifications of 2.7 liters capacity and a 30,000 km check interval, indicating no change in fluid system requirements across that span.
- The S8 4.2 V8 in both its 32V (250 kW, 1997-1999) and 40V (265 kW, 1999-2003) forms shares the same 3.4-liter capacity and 30,000 km check interval. The increase from 32 to 40 valves between generations did not alter the transmission fluid service specification.
- A check interval of 30,000 km is specified for the A8 2.5 V6 TDI quattro (110 kW) covering 1997-2001, while the non-quattro 110 kW variant of the same engine is listed with a 35,000 km interval. Both share the same 2.4-liter capacity, making the drivetrain configuration the differentiating factor for the interval.
- The two early 2.8 V6 30V quattro variants from 1994-1996, at 120 kW and 128 kW, have no check interval listed in the specifications, only a 2.75-liter capacity figure. In contrast, all other configurations in the range carry an explicit kilometer-based check interval alongside their capacity values.
- Among the V6 TDI variants, the higher-output 132 kW versions in both standard and quattro configurations share the same 2.4-liter capacity and 35,000 km check interval as their lower-output 110 kW counterparts, with the exception of the quattro 110 kW variant, which is specified at 30,000 km.
